Phrases to use in an Australian interview

Of course, the English we use in Australia is the same as the English you’ve learnt your entire lives. Either way, here are some phrases you can use at the time of your phone screening or interview.

At the beginning (while shaking hands):

“Hi, I’m so glad to be here.”

“Hi, it’s a pleasure to have this opportunity to speak with you.”

“Hi, happy to meet you in person.” [assuming you spoke to them on the phone previously]

When beginning an answer to an interview question:

“One of the first things that comes to mind is…”

“I would definitely have to say…”

“Without a doubt…”

“In terms of [repeat the point of the question], it would be…”

“One experience I really felt mattered was when…”

At the end:

“Thanks for this opportunity and I hope to hear from you!”

“Glad we had this chance to talk and I hope to hear from you!”

“It was great to hear more about the company and I hope to hear from you!”

Of course there are hundreds of other options, but these sentences might help you speak more fluently in your interview.
